I am a handbag fiend and can’t get enough. I’ve stated before that it’s a problem. A few years ago I gave up leather handbags. Let me clarify…I still buy them if it’s from a vintage or thrift store.
My reason is two-fold. First, ecologically, the amount of energy and waste it produces to make leather goods is amazing. Secondly, our society is so disposable. Living on an island everything ends up in the landfill…we are running out of space. I wanted to do my part and felt this choice makes an impact on a larger level.
I’ve found my handbag saviour, Anita Hopper, from ReFind Originals.
At ReFind Originals they deconstruct, clean and restore discarded leather apparel and upholstery, transforming it into stunning, one-of-a-kind leather handbags.

Anita combined her love of sewing and her interest in recycling to create eco-conscious handbags. Some are embellished with wooden buckles handmade from recycled wood scraps and others are adorned with vintage buttons. You can find these wonderful creations at her Etsy Store.

If you have a cherished leather piece that you would like to be re-fashioned into a new treasure, she is able to do custom creations. Do your part, buy a handbag.
