Vintage Note Cards
I’m a lover of stationary. I’ve posted other notecards that I adore but these are truly one of a kind. My brother opened a store in Old Wailuku Town on Maui this past spring. While helping him clean out the shop, I came across some vintage notecards.
Not sure how old they are, but by the look of the clothes and hair-do on the illustrations, I’m guessing the 1940’s.

Rediscover Makiki 2009
Whew! What a week & weekend. Haven’t been posting since I’ve been prepping for the Rediscover Makiki/Urban Arts Center this past weekend.
The City & County of Honolulu, in partnership with Friends of Makiki Community Library and Hui O Makiki, sponsored Rediscover Makiki: Sunset in the Park. It included movies at night, craft fair, keiki rides, book sale, Urban Arts...

New Craft Project
I’ve been itching to start a new project. I can’t decide if it will be sewing, embroidery or maybe I’ll finally use our Gocco. I’ll post whatever I decide to do.
What got me started back into embroidery/crewel was this book, The Pleasures of Crewel. I borrowed it from our local library and was inspired. I loved the book so much I bought it off eBay for $2.
This is...

Paper Reincarnation
I love paper products. Whenever I come across a stationary set or notecards, I hoard them…it’s a problem. No more guilt, I came across the Karma Card.
Paper Reincarnation by New Leaf Paper has a vision for a sustainable paper industry. Waste from one process becomes food to another. When you send someone a card, they tear off the front of the card and send to someone else as a...

Kahala Mall-Stag Nite 1971
I had come across this ad a few years ago and stashed it away. As I was doing some filing, I rediscovered it again. Love the fact that “Free Beer by Primo” was a way to get customers.
As I did a little more research, I came across these photos by Ian Lind that documented the events. A feminist group picketed the event in the mall.
Cool to see what Kahala Mall used to look...

Modern Big House
When I saw this photo, I thought it was another feature on living in small spaces. It looked like an apartment I would like to live in.
Until I read the article and realized it was a prison in Austria (can you see the barbed wire fence off the balcony now?).
Thought the visiting room looked like a modern office.Great article from the New York Times, Austria has a different approach in...

Tord Boontje Charms
I have been a huge fan of Tord Boontje for years. I discovered his beautiful lamps while shopping at the SFMOMA and have been a fan ever since. When he partnered with Target a few years ago to do their holiday ad campaign, I was glued to the TV waiting to see the commercials. We didn’t have a Target at the time, so when we pilgrimaged to LA we had to stop by the stores to take a look at...

Vintage Sewing Patterns
I don’t travel back home often, but when I do, I love to rummage through boxes in the closet and the garage. My mom keeps everything and I mean EVERYTHING. It does come in handy when I want to find items to outfit my place or myself.
I’ve begun to sew and came across these vintage patterns that she used. I’m definitely going to make some of these outfits.
Some of the...
